6 hurt in two-vehicle crash in Elgin; injuries 'minor'

Six wounded six people were sent to hospitals Elgin with minor injuries after a crash of two cars at 4:20 pm Monday to Harrison and Jay streets, police said. Elgin resident Maria Vera, 35, was cited with failure to yield to a left turn and no valid driver's license after the car she was driving collided with an auto driven by Amanda Delapena, 33 (no city home listed), police said. Delapena and four children riding in the car were taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital, police said.Vera declined transport to the hospital scene, but was asked to transport hospital after arriving at the prison in Elgin and was transported to Sherman Hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. Police also cited Delapena driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

Fraud payday loan: Marcus R. Grissett, 28, homeless of Elgin, was charged with financial fraud and the deceptive practice lending institution. He is accused of using information of another person of social security to receive a payday loan on June 1st. Bail was set at $ 25,000, and he was given a court date June 13.

DUI charge: Miguel A. Arreola-Espinoza, 28, 700 block of South Liberty Street, Elgin, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence and driving on a revoked or suspended license following a traffic stop Sunday afternoon noon to Elgin. He was given a court date June 9, and his bail was set at $ 30,000.

Obstruction charge: James R. Trausch, 50, homeless of Elgin, was charged with one count of resistance to a police officer and one count of obstruction identification after his arrest Monday morning in Elgin Street.Bail was set at $ 500, and was given a court date June 14.

Carpentersville

Domestic responsibilities: James R. Brown, 32, 2100 block of Harwinton Place, Hoffman Estates, was charged with two counts of domestic battery, criminal damage to property and interfering with reporting domestic violence Sunday Carpentersville. Police said Brown was accused of damaging a woman's cell phone so she could not report the incident. Bail was set at $ 15,000, and he was given a court date June 13.
